Even her childhood was not overlooked: in part due to the fact that she was the granddaughter of the idol of the nation, in part – because of the ability to ride a bike with no hands. “Margo – the only known child – wrote the local newspaper – who knows how to ride a bicycle, with her feet on the rudder and holding in one hand the ice cream and the other waving to all passers-by.”

Margaux Hemingway wanted universal recognition and fame. In front of her, it would seem, all roads were open, she could begin to develop in any creative direction. The girl dropped out of school and moved to New York. She began to try herself as a model, for that she had all the necessary parameters. She had a beautiful appearance, tall and slender figure. Therefore, she was constantly keeping to a strict diet. The efforts were rewarded: the photo on the cover of “Vogue” and “Time”, where they wrote about her – “golden girl.” At 20 years old, Margo became the highest paid model and received a $ 1 million. Advertising for the new fragrance from “Faberge”. Later she confessed: “I hated this stink, but my face has become one of the most recognizable in America.”

Having achieved success on the podium Margo tried her hand in film-making. Margaux Hemingway starred in films: «Lipstick», «Killer Fish”, «They Call Me Bruce?», «Inner Sanctum», «Dangerous Cargo», «Deadly Rivals». She met with producer Dino De Laurentiis and has played a leading role in his film “Lipstick”. Despite the success in the modeling business, Margot could not achieve success in the movie. Her debut film failed, and the opinions of critics from “terrible” to “worse than nowhere”, sometimes turned into banal insults. She proved to be a disgusting actress, absolutely not able to play. This situation had a negative impact on the psychological state of a model.

Neither the career nor the personal life of Margaux Hemingway were a success. The actress once again began to drink heavily, that have affected her appearance. Her marriage broke up, divorce was issued only in 1978, but by the time she ran away with the French director Bernard Fouche. In the 1980 they were married, lived in Paris and Margot once again appeared on the covers of fashion magazines.

Margaux Hemingway struggled defending her grandfather and protecting him and his memory. It is said that once Margot beat Francoise Sagan, when she inadvertently called Hemingway’s “third-rate writer.” When she fell down on the floor after a terrible blow, Sagan changed her mind and said, “Your grandfather was a great writer.” Bernard Fouche wanted to make a documentary about Hemingway, in which Margot would have, traveling to Europe and America, to interview all those who knew the writer. But their marriage was on the verge of collapse, and the project did not materialize.

Then Margot became fascinated with Buddhism and the magic of the American Indians, indulged in solitary drinking, gained weight 24 kilos and 1988 looked an absolute wreck. In the autumn of ’90, she was brought to the Betty Ford clinic with a breakdown on the basis of alcoholism. After a course of treatment with the strongest of psychotropic drugs, she was discharged. However, a few months later to the list of her disease – alcoholism and epilepsy – added bulimia, when a person can eat up much and does not feel full.

Ten years before the death she once in her lifetime visited the bullfight, she specially chose Pamplona, where Ernest Hemingway used to admire the spectacle. And she was horrified. Dying bull with blood from his nostrils tossed around the arena. “I thought all of this was happening to me” – then said Margo, for the first time her and her grandfather’s tastes didn’t coincide.

She did not like blood and chose more accurate way to commit suicide, remaining true to this dark and strange “habit” of the Hemingways. After all, habits – the science has already proven – are inherited by each new generation, as hair or eye color. And distant great-grandson, unwittingly, covers his eyes from the sun or lights a cigarette, the same way as a hundred years ago did his great-grandfather. And suicide to solve all the problems, when it begins to seem that there is no exit. Margaux Hemingway, her brother, grandfather and great-grandfather “solved” their problems with suicide.

Margaux Hemingway died on July 2, 1996 under mysterious circumstances in her apartment in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 41. This happened 35 years after the suicide of her grandfather – exactly to the day.
