This graceful and beautiful tree Albizia julibrissin has different names: Persian silk tree, pink silk tree, Lankaran acacia, silk tree, bastard tamarind, and sleeping tree. The tree is native to southern Lankaran (Azerbaijan) and in Iran. Cultivated in the Caucasus, is found in the central Caucasus, on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus and the South Coast of Crimea, Russia.

In traditional Chinese medicine Albizia julibrissin is used to nourish the heart and calm the spirit.

The genus of Albizia julibrissin is named after the Italian nobleman Filippo degli Albizzi, who brought it to Europe in the mid-18th century. The specific epithet julibrissin is a corruption of the Persian word gul-i abrisham which means “silk flower”.
