Well, when and how the hula hoop appeared, nobody knows exactly. According to modern interpretation, it originates in the mid-20th century. But in fact, the invention of hula hoop goes back to ancient times. If we could travel back in a time machine to 1000 BC, we would see Egyptian children playing with a hoop. This toy was made of dry vine. And the hoop was popular both – in ancient Greece and in ancient Rome. The Greeks decorated their big metal hula hoops with bells. During the rotation they were ringing. Besides, ancient artists demonstrated their mastery of the hoop, almost the same way as modern artists do it now. In addition, the paintings, dating from the 5th century BC depict a mythical hero Ganymede with a hoop in one hand and a cock in the other. More than that, symbolic Hoop Dance was popular in ancient cultures of Asia, Africa and South America.
