Beautiful and young Chinese artist Hong Yi, nicknamed Red Hong, is constantly looking for new and different means of expression. She managed to surprise her admirers once again. Red Hong has created a portrait of the famous British singer Adele… with candles and melted wax. According to the artist, a sad song of Adele “Set Fire to the Rain”, is associated with tears and fire, which she expressed using the current blue wax. Amazing creativity and skill of the process shown in a short video.
Hong Yi is an experimental artist creating pieces using everyday materials. She graduated from University of Melbourne, specializing in architecture. After graduation she moved to Shanghai to work as an architec. According to the artist, she fell in love with the city’s chaotic charm. Besides, it was native city of her father and grandparents. Meanwhile, her first work became a portrait of Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei, which she made entirely out of sunflower seeds. And then followed oother works of art, and in particular, a portrait of Adele from 1500 melted tea lights.

According to the artist, it took about 2 weeks to plan out, besides, she spent about a week looking for the right materials for the Portrait of Adele. But the art piece itself took about 7 hours to complete, and she used about 1500 candles!

In fact, blue candles represent tears, and by setting fire to them, they melt and flow into each other, forming a portrait of ADELE
