American artist Murray Percival Bewley
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 19, 1884, Bewley lived in Paris from 1906 until 1913. He continued to study, and exhibited regularly at the Salon. His work is characterized by a soft, loose brush stroke. Besides, his palette often consists of violets and opalescent colors. A member of the Paris-American Artists Association, his work is represented in various museums. In particular, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Finally, Bewley settled in Paris as a professional portrait and figure painter. He became a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salons and was awarded prizes in 1908, 1909 and 1910. The artist continued exhibiting at Salons through 1914. Sometime in the early 191O’s, Bewley returned to Fort Worth to paint portraits and sympathetic genre subjects. He then returned permanently to New York to paint and teach.
