The youngest mother on Earth
Into the hospital at Pisco (Peru) came a tired, ragged Indian woman from the foothills of the Andes. She led by the hand a shy little girl, scarcely three feet tall, with chestnut braids and an enormously bulging abdomen. Pointing to the frightened child, the Indian woman begged Surgeon Geraldo Lozada to exorcise the evil spirits which had taken possession of her. Certain that little Lina Medina had an abdominal tumor, Dr. Lozada examined her, and received the surprise of his life when he discovered she was eight months pregnant, making her the world’s youngest mother ever. Lina Medina was the youngest mum ever to give birth. She was only 5 years and 7 months old when her son Gerardo was born, 2.7 kg (6.0 lb). Lina died at the age of 40, Gerard at the age of 76.

However, the second youngest mother was Yelizaveta “Liza” Gryshchenko (Елизавета Грищенко) from the USSR. The little “Liza”, who had celebrated her 6th birthday 5 days earlier, gave birth naturally to a baby on August 19, 1934, in Kharkov, Ukraine, after being impregnated by her grandfather, a former sailor, 69-year-old. The baby, a 3 kg (6.6 lb) for 52 cm (20 in) girl, was stillborn because of an early placental tear. Her parents didn’t want the Soviet obstetricians, whose her uncle, Prof. Ivan Gryshchenko, to perform a Cesarean delivery, which was considered dangerous at this time. However, the baby girl, born at full term and apparently of good constitution, would have survived if she had been extracted more quickly, reanimated, and oxygenated, according to the doctors. After the incident, the family emigrated to Vladivostok, Russia; Liza’s mother brought her old father with them. The story is well documented and confirmed in a video recorded by the amazed doctors.

According to wikipedia list (wiki/List_of_youngest_birth_mothers), Hilda Trujillo was the 9th to give birth at the age of 9. Her 22 year old cousin was arrested, accused of rape. Dr Rolando Colareta who examined her gave reasoning saying “the rape of minors is nothing so unusual here or anywhere else. But of course rape does not mean pregnancy in children so young, except in rare cases”.

A young Singaporean mother (age 9, Singapore). Not sure whether it is the right image of a youngest Singaporean mother. After Thailand, Singapore was second Asian country where a nine year old girl gave birth to a baby. She was a student of primary school, had an affair with 14 year-old student. Both were alone at home in the absence of their parents and she ended up getting pregnant.

Colombian girl Dafne, a 10-year-old girl has given birth to a healthy five pound baby girl, which makes her one of the youngest mothers in history. According to Univision’s Primer Impacto, the girl (who has not been named) arrived at the hospital in tears and suffering “enormous pain” caused by the contractions. She reportedly delivered her daughter by cesarean section. A C-section delivery for a very young mother is not unusual according to experts. Gonzalez said, “These girls are not ready to be pregnant. Their bodies are not mature…They may be able to get pregnant, but being able to have a baby is a whole other situation.”
Efrain Pacheco Casadiego, director of the hospital where the girl gave birth, reported to RCN La Radio noticias, “We’ve already seen several cases [of pregnancy] in girls of the Wayuu ethnicity…When in fact [the girls] should be playing with dolls, they are having to care for a baby. This is shocking.”

Rifca Stanescu is now 25, she is a grandmother to a little boy aged two-and-a-half. She was married when she was 11 to Lionel Laiu, then aged 13, and who is now aged 27. She had her first child at 12 years old – little Maria Stanescu who got married at 10 herself and had her first son at 11, the child is now two-and-a-half – making Rifca a grandmother at 23. She was born on 27.08.1985 at Munteni in Galati, Romania, and her husband’s family asked for her hand but they refused – so she was kidnapped. She said: “I wanted to marry him, so I agreed, and of course after we had spent the night together then there was no way anyone could separate us. I had been promised to another boy’s family since I was two years old but I didn’t want that.”

“Before that there was a lot of fighting – once my father had even attacked my husband with a knife. He wanted him to pay 500,000 lei in compensation. My family even took me home but after three days I ran away again to be with him.”
Her daughter Maria Stanescu is now aged 13 and also married, having been wed at the age of ten and having a baby six months later. She said: “I am happy to be a grandmother – Ion is a good boy – and he is already engaged to a girl aged 8. Boys are always good to have – they don’t have to suffer as much girls I think.”

The need for a dowry has in recent years lead to an increase in the number of kidnaps of young girls who are then raped by men who can’t afford to buy a bride – and will then be able to claim the woman as their own. The woman in effect has to marry her rapist. These cases are dealt with not by Romanian courts but by gypsy courts.

A family that does not safeguard their daughter’s honor loses respect and may have to pay a fine. Girls usually only stay in school until the age of 10 or 12 – enough to learn to read and write but not enough to question traditional values or the idea there could be something else for them.

Youngest British grandparents:

Proud British granddad Shem Davies is not even 30 yet and his 14-year-old daughter Tia already has a child! Shem had Tia when he was only 15, setting the stage for his daughter to follow in his footsteps. When Shemp, who happens to be unemployed at the moment, showed up to the hospital, the staff thought he was the father instead of the grandfather. It’s hard to believe in it.
