1960s London beauty Henrietta Tiarks
Once, among the vintage photos of the 1950s, I came across the image of a beautiful lady, whose waist was fantastically thin. Whether it was a corset, or a matter constitution, there was something else, that didn’t let me pass by. It was her touchingly beautiful appearance reminiscent of Jacqueline Kennedy, that can hardly be found these days – the embodiment of femininity, gentility, elegance, doll-like, but natural face. She looks at us with raised eyebrows and eyes wide opened, and this kind and clever look is from the distant 1959. Henrietta Joan Tiarks was one of the most popular London beauties at the time.

– You will be grown, Assol. Yes, you will be grown. And one day, far out to sea, the sun will shine upon a white ship with scarlet sails. The white ship will slice through the waves and move right toward you. The miracle ship will sail silently, without shouts or shots, amidst the sounds of beautiful music. The ship will approach majestically, and a fast skiff, gilded and decorated with flowers will come from it. And you will see a brave and handsome young prince… And will leave forever for a splendid country where the stars will descend from the heavens to greet you.

Unique and beautiful Berber tribal women

The indigenous people of North Africa are not Negroid Africans and even the Arabs, but the people, called Berbers. Even more surprising is the fact that these people are representatives of the White Race, who had been subject to forced Islamization in the 7th century AD. Many Berbers are unaware that they are called Berbers, because they were given such name by other people, supposedly by the Romans. Berbers come from the Greek barbaros, or the Latin barbarus – ‘Barbarian’. Since the Greeks, and after them the Romans, called all the people, whose culture and language they did not understand – Barbarians. Now Berbers are called many Berber tribes that live throughout North Africa, from Egypt in the east to the Atlantic Ocean in the west, and the Sudan in the south to the Mediterranean Sea in the north, as well as in other countries, including European ones. The number of Berbers in the world is estimated variously – from 20 to 40 million.

Edwardian era actress Lily Elsie (1886 – 1962)

Edwardian era actress Lily Elsie

Lily Elsie was the most photographed actress, singer and model during the Edwardian era. On the stage Elsie seemed mysteriously beautiful with her perfect Grecian profile, enormous blue eyes, and hauntingly sad smile. Lily Elsie was not very fond of her profession, as in life she was shy, and took breaks for several years. Childless, she was not happy in marriage, and her husband did not welcome her work on the stage. Lily Elsie wore dresses by a well-known fashion designer Lucy Duff, who saved from the “Titanic” in the infamous “boat of millionaires.” After the resounding success of her costumes in the operetta “The Merry Widow”, all paid tribute to the beauty of Lily Elsie. Her outfits and hats were copied and sold in the majority of the London department stores. She was loved for her looks, dresses and taste. Lily Elsie was so popular, and thousands of cards with her picture had huge circulations. Lily herself did not consider herself beautiful and, according to the recollections of her friends, “Lily Elsie was always shy and unsure of herself. She considered herself too thin, not too showy, with too low voice.”

Saint Frances Farmer of Hollywood
In the mid-20th century, the name of Hollywood actress Frances Farmer never left the headlines. The writing was not so much about the roles played by her, but about scandals plagued the star throughout life. She endured numerous arrests, forced hospitalization and sessions of lobotomy … True, there were those who supported the Hollywood star – Kurt Cobain thought she was his muse and named his daughter Frances Cobain in honor of Frances Farmer. The tribute to his muse became his song “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle”. He was confident that the case against her was the result of a massive conspiracy. In addition to this, Courtney Love on her wedding day wore a dress previously owned by Farmer. In 1980, Mylene Gautier, now known as Mylene Farmer, changed her name to Farmer in honor of the legendary actress. In 1996, Sally Clark wrote a stage play about tragic fate of Farmer, entitled “St. Frances of Hollywood”.
