The Romanesque cathedral, created by Italian lighting experts Luminarie De Cagna, was one of 29 installations at the 2012 Licht Festival in Ghent, Belgium. Lighting up the night sky an impressive 55,000 LED lamps this dazzling cathedral recently outshone the competition in Belgium. A 28 meter arch entrance led spectators through a gallery of bright colors created by ‘curtains’ of joined LED lights placed onto the building.

Vodianova grew up in a poor district of the city, with her mother and two half sisters, one of whom has cerebral palsy. As a teenager, Vodianova helped her mother sell fruit on the street and later set up her own fruit stand with a friend to help her family out of poverty. Vodianova’s father walked out on the family when she was a toddler, and she did not have any further contact with him until after she had become famous. At the age of 15, Vodianova enrolled in a modelling academy. By the age of 17, Vodianova had moved to Paris, and signed contract with Viva Models.

The real life seven dwarfs
Achondroplasia is a common cause of dwarfism. It occurs as a sporadic mutation in approximately 75% of cases, may be inherited as an autosomal dominant genetic disorder.
Many historians describe dwarfs in the courts of nobles. According to Pliny, Julia, Augustus’ niece, had a dwarf about 60 cm in service. Even among the Roman soldiers, were dwarfs about 90 cm tall. Also, the dwarfs, kept for fun were at the royal courts in Western Europe. In particular, the dwarfs served to Charles V, Catherine de Medici, Peter I, Anna Ioannovna, and Catherine the Great of Russia.
Of course, dwarfs were and are in modern times, and some of them are real stars. For example, Hagendra Tapa Magar, who became the record holder of the Guinness Book of Records on October 14, 2010. The man got the title of the smallest person in the world.

Traditionally, the creation of carpets (Alfombras) begins on the last Sunday before Easter. The time, when the bumpy cobblestone streets of the old Guatemala city – covered in a layer of leveled sand, a nice plane base for the carpets. The inspiration for the creation of carpets – Mayan tradition, Christian religion and nature. For the work craftsmen use carefully-carved wooden stencils. Noteworthy, some of these stencils masters pass on from generation to generation. Also, new ones are created every year, so the design of the alfombras is always unique.

South African doctor Hamilton Naki (26 June 1926 – 29 May 2005) was a black laboratory assistant to white cardiac surgeon Christiaan Barnard. Noteworthy, it was the time when South Africa was under apartheid. Recognized for his surgical skills, Hamilton Naki was able to teach medical students and physicians such skills. Despite not having received a formal medical education, he took a leading role in organ transplant research. The tragedy of Naki’s career was that his surgical brilliance, appreciated only within the confines of Cape Town’s medical community, could never be publicly acknowledged. In fact, because of the stringent racial laws of successive apartheid governments, their doctrine denied black people any formal training for careers deemed to be suitable only for whites.
