Marina’s passion for travel and interest in photography create a wonderful symbiosis in her works. Lunkina captures the beauty of nature, and gives us the opportunity to visit the most interesting parts of our planet. Besides, Marina has recently joined the program to draw attention to the preservation of the environment. She has traveled around the Golden Ring of Iceland (Golden Circle), and now introduces us to the waterfalls, geysers, volcanic valleys and asleep volcanoes. Meanwhile, driving alone in ‘Thing Fields’ national park, she has found cosmic landscapes. Fortunately, her best company was her camera, and, according to her, she felt like a director making a science fiction movie.

Happy Face spider from Hawaiian islands

Meet the only spider in the world which guaranteed to bring a smile to your face – the Happy Face spider. The tiny creature got the nickname thanks to bizarre markings on its body which resemble a big smiley face. Found in the rainforests of Hawaiian islands, the tiny insect is just a few millimeters big. According to sources, it is harmless to humans. Flock of thousands of starlings mimicking the appearance of a giant bird to scare off the prowling falcon

Bird air shows in Scotland. Amazing spectacle took place in the sky above Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve in Somerset. At first glance it looks like a huge bird travelling across the sky. But this is, in fact, a flock of starlings flying in formation at a Somerset nature reserve. The ‘fantastic’, not to mention appropriate, flock of thousands of starlings creates intimidating shapes to scare off prowling falcon. Once the flock had spotted the predator, it quickly grouped together and inadvertently mimicked the appearance of a giant bird to confuse the hunter, whether it be a sparrowhawk, buzzard or Peregrine Falcons.

A ghostly, white figure has been spotted moving silently between the gravestones in a cemetery in Kent. It could be a scene from a horror film but in actual fact the red eyes, sharp claws and pure white body belongs to an albino squirrel, that has happily set up home in Margate cemetery. Wildlife photographer, Tony Flashman snapped the critter, who is often delighting locals and visitors to the site. However, it seems the rare creature is the only one.

Located on the high mountains of the Andes Lake Titicaca is the unique creations of human hands – it’s an amazing invention by the Uros tribe people – floating island. These islands made of reeds are still inhabited by Uros tribe. For many years they have firmly settled on the floating islands, built houses, boats, and even schools for children. Reed is considered to be sufficiently flexible material from which the boats are built, very light, well kept on the surface of the water. Every 3 months the inhabitants of Uros tribe make their repair, and in general, floating islands are able to serve people over 30 years. These islands on Lake Titicaca are about 40. In addition to building materials reeds is used in medicine as a source of iodine, it is also considered an effective analgesic agent.

Undoubtedly, on our planet there are such places, that you may receive the impression of visiting another planet. For instance, plants are more similar to extraterrestrial life forms, and nature is so different from what we see every day. In fact, four of the island of Socotra separated from the African continent 6-7 million years ago. Meanwhile, in isolation from the “mainland”, the evolution on these islands went under their own power. Accordingly, on these islands the nature as if played a trick creating beautiful bizarre organisms. The result of evolutionary creativity – 700 extremely rare species of flora and fauna! Noteworthy, one third of them are endemic, ie, found only here and nowhere else on Earth.
By the way, Socotra from Sanskrit – an island of happiness. Indeed, a sense of happiness really embraces all who visited this quiet corner of whimsical botanical paradise.

In fact, it is a 25 acre private garden, which is a home to a large population of native and exotic birds including hand-reared parrots and waterfowl. Open to visitors all year round and there is no set charge for admission (entry by donation). Originaly, the name Maple Glen appeared when they had to officially register the nursery. Meanwhile, at the time there were over 30 varieties of Japanese Maples (Acer sp.) in the property and the garden developed in a curving valley with a water source in the bottom. Such a landform is called a Glen in Bobs native Ireland.

Born in Mexico City in 1967, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer received a B.Sc. in Physical Chemistry from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada (1989). Electronic artist, he develops interactive installations that are at the intersection of architecture and performance art. His main interest is in creating platforms for public participation, by perverting technologies such as robotics, computerized surveillance or telematic networks. Inspired by phantasmagoria, carnival and animatronics, his light and shadow works are “anti-monuments for alien agency”. His kinetic sculptures, responsive environments, video installations and photographs have been shown in museums in four dozen countries.

“The rainforests of the ocean”, coral reefs are the most beautiful of all marine habitats. Large colonies of tiny animals, corals grow slowly and leave behind a layer of limy skeleton. It is so tough that almost feels like rock. According to Scientists, one coral head can grow from 30 to 76 inches in diameter in 23 years. Meanwhile, the large, solid coral heads often serve as a “cleaning station” for certain kinds of animals known as “cleaners.” A cleaner can be a type of shrimp or fish that will clean parasites and diseased tissue off fish or other animals.
