Galina Benislavskaya tragic love to Sergei Yesenin
First of all, this post is a tribute to Galina Benislavskaya, who became famous for her boundless love to a Russian poet Sergei Yesenin. Born in St. Petersburg in 1897, Galina Arturovna Benislavskaya was his friend, secretary, lover, and everything. Unfortunately, he didn’t love her. On December 27, 1925, Esenin’s life was cut short. Benislavskaya was in a psychiatric clinic. Life for her has lost all meaning. After the death of Yesenin, completely broken, she decided to end her life. And she did it, shot herself at the grave of Sergei Yesenin. So, life of 29-year old Galina Benislavskaya tragically ended. In fact, she couldn’t live without him…
Of course, suicide of Galina Benislavskaya shocked the public. And the final decision was to bury her next to Yesenin. The funeral took place on December 7, 1926. The inscription on the monument reads: “Faithful Gal”.
Born on October 3, 1895, Sergei Aleksandrovich Yesenin was a famous Russian lyrical poet of the Silver Age of Russian poetry. He was briefly married to the famous American dancer, Isadora Duncan, who was 23 years older than the poet.
As known, however disputed, he would later commit suicide. In fact, his drinking and dysfunctional lifestyle ultimately played a significant role in his death. Indeed, Yesenin seemed plagued by his own inner demons. His poetry showed the influence of the Russian folk traditions, as well as a love of the beauty of the landscape which seemed to strike deeply into the famous Russian soul.
