Jewelry art by Dashi Namdakov
Buryat genius Dashi Namdakov lives and works in Eastern Siberia, near the beautiful Lake Baikal. Born in 1967 in a small village in the Chita region, Dashi grew up in a family of national craftsman. His father, known in the village as a man able to do with his hands literally everything – furniture, metal handles, and even carpets. Besides, his wood-carved sculptures and Buddhist icons decorated the local monasteries. So, from the very childhood, helping his father, Dashi learned different crafts, using different materials. Dashi graduated from Krasnoyarsk Institute of Art. In 2000, after his first solo exhibition in Irkutsk, it became clear that the art world has a new name – Dashi Namdakov. Then followed successful exhibitions in other cities of Russia, and successful shows abroad. According to the artist, people should perceive the world as it is, because its creator is wiser than we are, and then “you open the real beauty”.

Undoubtedly, Namdakov is a phenomenon in art, and not only in the Buryat, and not only in Russia, and not only in the modern art world, but art in general, outside of time and space. This fact should be recognized. His style is unique: a sense of form, plastics, movement, sense of proportion and harmony. The refined aesthetics of his work is incomparable with anyone or anything. It is filled with unearthly beauty, the beauty of dreams and dreaming. In the art of jewelry Dashi Namdakov reign dream-like images and viewed in a completely rethought its vision from the past. In fact, jewelry is his inner world, rich and complex, interesting and beautiful.

Meanwhile, Namdakov absorbed heritage of world art from the Renaissance paintings of Altamira and graphics, to Japanese prints and netsuke, from Scythian-Siberian animal style to the Central Asian, from medieval European sculpture to African sculpture. However, this is not a set of borrowing, this phenomenon is much deeper and bigger.
