Russian artist of applied art Sergei Alexandrovich Zinin was born in 1961 in Chistoozersk district of Novosibirsk region. In 1983, he graduated from Novosibirsk Pedagogical Institute, Fine Art Department. Sergei Zinin started painting on birch bark in 1995. The inspiration for his art works is beautiful Siberian nature and the symbol of Russia – birch tree. Sergei Zinin’s landscapes are in private collections in Russia and abroad – Germany, China, Japan and England. Sergey Aleksandrovich Zinin – the teacher of an additional education of the highest qualification category, head of the creative association “Young Artist” and “City of Masters” in his native village of Chistoozersk district of Novosibirsk.
So called “Cloak of Birch” – the bark was used to decorate the walls of the home, to make the boats, floats for the nets. From ancient times, birch was like a writing paper. In addition, out of it made light and comfortable shoes, dishes, toys, and even jewelry. Birch bark has long had the leading place in the folk crafts of the North. Birch bark craft was spread especially widely in Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Novgorod, and Veliky Ustyug.
The starting material for decorative works – birch bark of dead trees. The inner layer has its different shades of red – brown color, which is convenient in the manufacture of leaves and flowers.
