Sculptures from Houston Yellow Pages by Cara Barer
American artist and fine art photographer Cara Barer is from Houston. She uses the Houston Yellow Pages for creating decorative sculptures and taking photographs of them. The photographer realized she owned many books that were no longer of use to her, or for that matter, anyone else. “Would I ever need “Windows 95?” After soaking it in the bathtub for a few hours, it had a new shape and purpose. Each book tells how to begin according to its size, type of paper, and sometimes contents. Author’s final note – No important books have been injured during the making of any of these photographs.
Texan photographer Barer somehow noticed an old telephone directory drenched in the rain. Then she dried it up, and pages had such a bizarre shape. She photographed the directory, and then decided to recreate their own unusual shapes. Now she collects old telephone directories, guides, books, and makes of them art. Difficulty in her work is that every year it is more and more difficult to find books and references of required volume, the book transforms into an electronic format. But so far, Cara Barer creates her unusual book art.
