Canadian artist Rachael Ashe is originally from Toronto, and have been living in Vancouver for about eight years. According to her, she has always wanted to be an artist. First, trained as a photographer in college, and began working in collage and re-purposing books. Now she mainly concentrates on paper-based work, and creates three dimensional altered book collage. Meanwhile, Brian Dettmer and Su Blackwell are two artists that have inspired Rachael. “They have completely different styles from one another, but both create amazing work from old books”. Nature is a major source of inspiration for Rachael Ashe living on the West Coast. Also, the materials she uses often inspire the work she creates. “I tend to use found objects and reclaimed/recycled materials”, says Rachael Ashe.
