Believe it or not museum in Copenhagen
Mysterious Museum «Believe it or not!» is located in Copenhagen, capital of Denmark. This unusual and surprising museum was created by Robert LeRoy Ripley, American cartoonist, traveler, amateur anthropologist, collectioner. He was born in Santa Rosa, California in 1890, and began his career with the creation of comic book «Believe it or not!» in the newspaper New York Globe. At age 32, he traveled the world and collected all the most extraordinary things of 201 countries. These miracles had become enough for existing now 32 museums in different parts of the world. Robert was a TV host of Believe It or Not TV series which featured exotic sites, odd facts from around the world.
What brought popularity to Robert LeRoy Ripley’s program and comic book «Believe it or not!» in the newspaper New York Globe – Ripley included items submitted by readers, who supplied documented photographs of different exotic things – from unusually shaped vegetables to domestic animals, which were depicted by Ripley’s drawings.
No wonder he received more mail than any president of the world. Ripley claimed to be able to “prove every statement he made,” because he worked with professional fact researcher, Norbert Pearlroth. Pearlroth spent 52 years as the feature’s researcher, finding and verifying unusual facts for Ripley and, after Ripley’s death, for the King Features syndicate editors who took over management of the Believe it or Not!’ panel.
There are 32 Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museums around the world. They are often more than simple museums cluttered with curiosities. Some include theaters and arcades, others are constructed oddly, such as the Orlando, Florida Odditorium which is built off-level as if the building is sinking.
