Technology of diamond installation in manufacturing icons appeared in 2004, it is a new trend in art, which also has no analogues in the world. All work is done by hand by professional craftsmen, who previously receive the blessing on the creation of icons, each installation is a unique work of art. The idea of creation encrusted with diamonds icons using natural colored diamonds and diamond chips dates 12.02.2004 and belongs to Igor Kotelyanets (born 1961). The idea of creating such a direction emerged from Igor Ivanovich Kotelyanets in the Russian city of Sevastopol, in one of the cult objects.
Igor Kotelyanets is the sole author of this direction. The first work was done 31.03.2006 – Icon of the Mother of God Semistrelnaya, measuring 10.5 x 7.5 cm. Used 39.05 carats total weight of diamonds and chips. The author took more than two years on the complete set of colored diamond chips for the installation of the first icons.
Works with diamond icons installation have been exhibited at international jewelry exhibitions since 2006. The diamond icon was awarded a diploma at the 4th International Jewelry Exhibition 25-28 October 2006 in the category “Icons – Diamond installation.” The icons was blessed by the abbot of Pokrovsky Cathedral of Sevastopol Mitred Arch priest father Eugene (a letter of thanks from 27.02.2007).
With the blessing the icons exhibited in the church of the Assumption (Foros) and the Church of the Vladimir (Chersonesos, Sevastopol) in Crimea, Russia. The work and the technologies are protected by copyright.
