Incredible Button art by Ann Carrington. The Royal Jubilee Banner, made from golden buttons on crimson velvet was commissioned for the Queen’s diamond Jubilee. The banner hung from the stern of the Royal Barge ‘The Spirit of Chartwell’ as it made its journey up the River Thames from Battersea to London Bridge on the Thames Diamond Jubilee procession 3rd June 2012. English artist, designer and sculptor Ann Carrington graduated from Birmingham Royal College of Art in 1987. In 2008 she was the winner of a national competition to produce a major new artwork for Margate sea front. In 2010 Ann was invited by the United Nations to help raise awareness of current issues through her artwork. She has exhibited worldwide and fulfilled many private and public commissions – Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation, United Nations, Rothschild, Guinness, Issey Miyake, Lilly Saffra, Duke of Westminster, Levi Strauss, Dunhill, DAKS, Elton John, Paul Smith, Lulu Guinness, etc.
Manhattan Mettle. In April 2011 Ann Carrington was commissioned to make an art work for the huge lobby wall of the W Hotel in Hoboken, inspiration came from the metallic shapes and landscape of the old docklands and waterfront industries of Hoboken – chains, anchors, hooks, cranes made from steel metal and nickel. The mural is actually a giant magnet holding in place tens of thousands of metallic objects – including dollars and dimes, New York subway tokens, spanners, saws, ship building nails and chains.
