Kumi Yamashita’s Portraits made with a single sewing thread wrapped through nails. Based in New York City Japanese artist Kumi Yamashita creates genius portraits by wrapping a single unbroken black thread around galvanized nails, on a clear white background. It’s simply breathtaking art, creative and beautiful.
Born in Japan, Kumi Yamashita arrived in the United States on a high school exchange program in 2004. Currently the artist is living in Manhattan in New York City, where she works in her art studio. Kumi Yamashita graduated from Glasgow School of Art, UK, in 1999, and Cornish College of the Arts, Washington in 1994. She has had numerous group and solo exhibitions in Japan and throughout the USA, as well as in Singapore, Italy, and the UK.
