Born 22 May 1968 in St. Petersburg, contemporary artist Blokhin without a doubt will be on a par with the world’s classical paintings over the centuries. Blokhin received a classical education at the St. Petersburg Art Institute named after Repin, considered one of the best followers of Russian art with a new level of academic and realistic traditions.
Known primarily as a portrait painter, Nikolai Blokhin also paints landscapes, still lifes, and genre paintings. However, the portrait is the most important aspect of his talent. Blokhin is not only a skilled artist, a great colorist, he is also a connoisseur of human souls. His portraits have psychological insight, passion and emotion, idea and inspiration.
Nikolai Blokhin is the world’s only artist who has won top honors in two of the most prestigious, competing, art contests USA – PSA and ASOPA. 2002 – Grand Prix of the International Competition of the American Association of Artists – portraitists (American Society of Portrait Artists (ASOPA) at the Metropolitan Museum, New York, USA. 2004 – Best of Show Award of the International Society of competition portrait painters of America (International Portrait Competition of the Portrait Society of America (PSA), Boston, USA.
