Beautiful and creative artist and architect Hong Yi was born and raised in Sabah, Malaysia. She is also known under the nickname “Red”. Hong Yi became known as an artist who ‘loves to paint, but not with a paintbrush’. Recently she has unveiled her new project – colorful birds made from flower petals, herbs, twigs and other greenery. In the unusual creative collections of the Chinese artist are also art work of edible food on the plate, “Never Fall in Love” portrait with tabs, Mark Zuckerberg portrait of books, Adele portrait of melted candles, Lucio Dalla portrait with Coffee Cup Stains, and many others.
These bright flower petals can play with all the colors of the rainbow and the hundreds and thousands of shades. Birds in the flower mosaics look realistic, natural and detailed. Hong Yi realized that flower petals – especially gerbera petals – look similar to feathers especially when they are arranged on top of one another, layer by layer.
Known as the artist who ‘loves to paint, but not with a paintbrush’, her works have been featured by media around the world including Huffington Post, Wall Street Journal, ABC, CNN, NBC and the Daily Mail. She has worked with clients such as Hewlett Packard, Unilever, Nespresso, and Astro, was invited as a presenter at the 6th and 7th EG Conference in Monterey, California, and lectured in design universities Domus Academy and NABA in Milan, and traveled to USA, Italy, Germany, China, Malaysia, Australia and Hong Kong to present her work. She currently lives and works between Shanghai and Malaysia.
