By the way, the first butter sculptures appeared in Tibet. For many decades, Buddhist lamas from have created large figures from Yak’s oil for the Tibetan New Year and other religious celebrations.
In North America, the tradition of oil sculptures dates back to the 19th century. Traditionally, butter figurines depicted cows and other living creatures. Of course, they aimed to attract attention at fairs. The first written testimony about North American sculpture tells about the sculptor Caroline Brooks, who showed her creative approach to food back in 1876 at an exhibition in Philadelphia. Since then, “butter carving and modeling” have become an annual tradition.
