Born on September 21, 1976, La Carolina, Jaen, Andalusia, Juan Francisco Casas Ruiz is a Spanish visual artist. He got a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1999 and a Master in Fine Arts in 2003 from the University of Granada. Noteworthy, during his studies he was first in his class. Besides, he won the National Award for Master Thesis of the Ministry of Education and Science for the best graduate qualifications in Spain. In addition, he received the scholarship of Teacher Education and Research (2000). From that year until 2004 he completed his PhD at the University pf Granada while also teaching drawing and printmaking in their Department of Drawing.
Juan Francisco Casas Ruiz draws realistic portraits by using just a BIC pen. Most of his paintings are really cool – large size oil canvases and blue ballpen drawings which reproduce images taken with his camera. The art works by Juan Francisco Casas are in major collections including the Museum Artium and in private collections around the world.

Juan Francisco Casas was selected for the INJUVE Art Show, at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid in 2002. Since this year he is represented by Galería Fernando Pradilla (Madrid) and Galería El Museo (Bogota, Colombia). Besides, has also done collaborations with Galeria Luis Adelantado (Valencia – Mexico D.F.), Galeria Metta (Madrid) or Ferrán Cano Gallery (Barcelona – Palma de Mallorca), among others.

In 2004 he won the prestigious ABC Prize of Painting, the president of the jury being the artist Luis Gordillo, and the award was given by Culture Minister Pilar del Castillo. Noteworthy, in 2005 he was the only Spanish representative in the 2nd Biennial of Prague. Also, was among other relevant international artists such as Damien Hirst, Maurizio Cattelan and Neo Rauch.
