Opened in March 2013, the seventh annual International competition “Garden photographer of the Year” ends October 31st 2013. Traditionally, the judges will select around 100 finalists. Next, their beautiful photographs will appear printed at exhibition. Besides, they will participate at major exhibitions during 2013, with substantial press coverage. The categories of the contest include various themes. In particular, Beauty of Plants, Beautiful Gardens, Wildlife in the Garden, Breathing Spaces, and Bountiful Earth. Also, Trees Woods Forests, Wildflower Landscapes, and Greening the City. One finalist will win the title of ‘International Garden Photographer of the Year’, and 16 finalist will win ‘Young Garden Photographer of the Year’. In addition, the competition is open to amateurs and professionals alike around the world.
Noteworthy, the competition is open to everyone, amateurs and professionals alike. Entries are welcome from any country in the world. There are no restrictions on the type of camera you use, or the techniques you use to produce your final image.
Set up by five members of the Garden Photographersʼ Association, the competition began in 2007. As a response to entries from outside Great Britain, it added ʻInternationalʼ to the title in 2008. Its first exhibition took place at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in May 2008 and quickly established itself as the worldʼs premier garden and plant photography event.
