Born 25 January 1987 in Moscow, Russian professional tennis player Maria Yuryevna Kirilenko started playing tennis at the age of 5. Meanwhile, it was an Honored Master of Sports Elena Bryukhovets who noticed the girl during training when she was 12. Next, Bryukhovets invited Maria to work together. In particular, Elena Bryukhovets developed a special three-year program, and less than in 3 years Kirilenko became the number one in her age group and second in the age group of 18-year-olds. Kirilenko won her first WTA Tour title in 2005, defeating Anna-Lena Grinefeld in the China Open. Noteworthy, Kirilenko reached no. 16, her career-high singles ranking, on the WTA tour in May 2012. In particular, she won the junior event at the 2002 Canadian Open, as well as the 2002 US Open junior tournament. She has reached one Grand Slam quarterfinal at the 2010 Australian Open. As of 21 May 2012, Kirilenko is ranked world no. 17.
According to press, Maria Kirilenko dated fellow Russian player, Igor Andreev for several months. In November, 2011, another fellow Russian, Washington Capitals hockey player Alexander Ovechkin announced on his Twitter account that he and Kirilenko were dating and posted a photograph of their couple.
