Metal sculptures by James Corbett
The 46-year-old Australian artist James Corbett creates these sculptures using salvaged old car parts. He converts parts of cars scrapped sculptures worth thousands of dollars. According to the artist, he created his sculptures using gears, spark plugs, exhaust, radiator, and anything that the artist can get. He said: “I was working in a warehouse of scrap and type I know, that ran races stock cars, showed me a Trophy winner fact with levers of change.” “I looked at it and I thought that I could do a much better job so I started making my own sculptures.”
Meanwhile, James discovered his talent for creating his amazing pieces of art whilst running an auto recycling business in Brisbane. And his first piece was an off road race buggy, inspired by a sport James had participated in for some ten years. The response from friends and customers was so positive that he decided to create more pieces. In particular, cars, bikes animals and birds, all of which he sold readily. James likes to incorporate old and interesting car parts into his sculptures. Nothing is bent into shape; the original integrity of each car part is maintained. “The parts themselves are often interesting, some are as much as eighty years old”, says James.
