Scrap metal sculptures by Sayaka Ganz
Japanese artist and sculptor Sayaka Ganz creates animals from thrift store plastics. The artist spent her childhood in Japan but grew up in several different countries. According to Japanese Shinto beliefs, all objects and organisms have spirits. Thus, taught in kindergarten, the girl knew that discarded objects before their time weep at night inside the trash bin. Accordingly, Sayaka selects items that are out of order and no longer used and discarded before integrating them into sculpture. In particular, sculpture of an animal, or any organic forms that are alive and in motion. According to the artist herself, scrap metal inspires her to create these animal sculptures.
