Seven-time Olympic medalist, born on January 19, 1979 in Belgorod, Svetlana Khorkina is a former deputy at the Russian State Duma between 2007–2011. But first of all, she is one of the most successful female gymnasts of her era. In her career she won 47 World, Olympic and European medals, and it’s more than any other gymnast. She gave birth to her son Svyatoslav, on July 21, 2005 in Los Angeles, thus giving her child American citizenship. Khorkina has been married to a 55 year old former FSB general, Oleg Konchev. Since December 2004 Khorkina has been vice-president of the Russian artistic gymnastics federation. She is an ambassador of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
Svetlana didn’t limit herself with sport activity, she successfully acted in modeling business, posed nude for the Russian version of Playboy in November 1997. She has aspirations to become an actress, and has taken to the stage as Brenda Venus, Henry Miller’s last love, in a landmark Moscow production. However, after leaving the sport following the 2004 Athens Olympics, she claimed that she did not have the patience to coach.
Instead, motherhood became her top priority. Khorkina gave birth to her first child, a son named Svyatoslav, on July 21, 2005 in Los Angeles, thus giving her child American citizenship.
As for her politic career, her family life did not get in the way of her continuing successes. Since December 2004 she has been vice-president of the Russian artistic gymnastics federation. She has been a member of the political party of United Russia since 2003. She was also elected as a member of the United Russia party to the Russian State Duma in 2007 and became the vice-president of the Committee of Youth within it.
