First of all, tourists can visit and admire this Flower Carpet at the Grand-Place in Brussels on 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 August 2012. Every evening at 10.00 pm, 10.30 pm and 11.00 pm they may enjoy the view with sound and light. 600,000 stunning begonias have been painstakingly woven into a 1,800sqm carpet inspired by the tapestries of Ethiopia, Congo, Nigeria, Botswana and Cameroon as a giant tribute to Africa. This is Belgium’s biggest visitor attractions and expected to be viewed by 100,000 people over the weekend.
However, the first Floral Carpet in its present-day form the florists created in 1971 on the Grand Place. The process of creation headed the landscape architect E. Stautemans. Of course, this art installation has been hugely popular ever since.
Meanwhile, the beautiful flower carpet on the Grand-Place of Brussels is a colorfull tradition that attracts many tourists, foreign and local. The masters used hundreds of thousands of begonias to give amazing colors to the carpet. Dedicated this year to Africa, the motifs consist of drawings of people from Ethiopia, Congo, Nigeria, Cameroon and Botswana.
