Big Ben in Siberia
Big Ben in Siberia
Gothic style school of foreign languages imitating the English Big Ben, opened in Surgut, Khanty-Mansiisk region in 2004. The idea of the school belongs to the general director of Surgutstroytrest Evgeny Barsov. 20 class rooms, a spacious hall, amphitheater, stained-glass windows, a cafe-bar on the ground floor – Big Ben has rightly become one of the main symbols of Surgut, delighting residents and visitors with its beauty. The outer wall is built of “Besser” – a new building material, which looks like a typical for middle-ages time “wild stone”, but in terms of quality in no way inferior to the modern brick. At the Surgut School of Foreign Languages they offer everyone the opportunity to learn English, German, French and Spanish languages. “In the Big Ben we incorporate England with its culture, language and traditions. We teach our children to communicate with the civilized world. ”
«I believe anyone would be impressed upon seeing both the interior and exterior of ‘Big Ben’ school for the first time. It’s still a real pleasure to work in such an environment and in a building which has become, probably, the most famous landmark in Surgut». Tim Nielsen, English language teacher.
