To get to the pagoda, it is necessary to overcome the 16 kilometers up the mountain.

Around the mountain on which the pagoda stands, there are religious buildings, the faithful can sit here at night.

A day-trip by taxi from Bago took us to Kyaiktiyo, or the Golden Rock, one of the most sacred sites in Burma. Basically it is this huge mountain-top boulder perched precariously overlooking a precipice. Apparently it can be moved.

To visit the pagoda, there are some restrictions: foreigners can not sleep next to it, women are not allowed to touch the stone and to be nearby.
