Cursed precious stones
Cursed precious stones
Sometimes precious stones hold mystery, especially famous. However, some are infamous for the misfortune they’re believed to attract to their owners. Among them – La Peregrina pearl, which Elizabeth Taylor proudly showed off during her cameo of the 1969 film “Anne of a Thousand Days.” The gem is believed to be cursed (The Curse of Divorce).
In December 2011 the pearl La Peregrina was sold as part of Elizabeth Taylor’s collection for a record price of more than $11 million at Christie’s in New York.
Richard Burton bought La Peregrina pearl at a Sotheby’s auction in 1969 and gave it to his wife, Elizabeth Taylor, as a Valentine’s Day present. The couple married and divorced twice — with their second marriage lasting only nine months. Elizabeth Taylor held on to the pearl and married a total of eight times.
