Considered the most beautiful butterfly in the world, its wings on top have a chestnut-brown color, and below – white color. Traditionally, a fantastic action in the mountains of Mexico take place. Every year more than 150,000 tourists from all over the world come to Mexico to see this amazing phenomenon. Each year about 300 million of these beautiful multi-colored butterflies spread their wings go on a long – more than 4,000 km! Travel from Canada and the northeastern U.S. states for the winter in fir forests of the mountains of central Mexico. Until recently, the place where generations of butterflies have sought to produce offspring, remained a mystery. Today, small groups of nature lovers, accompanied by the best naturalists in Mexico can watch this exciting natural phenomenon.

In fact, it was Samuel H. Scudder, who first used the common name “monarch”. According to the published in 1874 article “it is one of the largest of our butterflies, and rules a vast domain”. However, the name may be in honor of King William III of England. The monarch was one of the many species originally named by Linnaeus in his Systema Naturae of 1758. Interestingly, first this kind of butterfly placed in the genus Papilio. In 1780, Jan Krzysztof Kluk used the monarch as the type species for a new genus, Danaus.
