Spanish artist Jose Escofet
Spanish artist Jose Escofet was born in 1930 in Terrassa (Province of Barcelona), Spain. The artist had worked as a free lance graphic artist in Barcelona for 25 years, before moving to England in 1979. Currently, the artist lives with his English wife and 3 children in England. During his long artistic career he had experimented with different media including Pumice, Latex and Marble dust, through expressionism and abstraction, and later returned to figurative painting. The main inspiration for the artist is nature with its flowers, landscapes, and every living creature. Jose Escofet has always admired the Dutch and Spanish Schools of Still Life painting. Flowers are at the core of his paintings, and he likes to play with proportions and create strange morphing of plants and creatures. Jose Escofet admits that he is trying to express his belief that in nature we are all interconnected and of equal importance – be it a plant, an insect or a human being.
Jose Escofet: “I find the microcosm in nature totally absorbing and beautiful in an ‘other worldly’ and magical way and, without doubt, endlessly inspiring. This connection with nature has proved for me an inspiration that has lasted many years and produced many exhibitions of work. I was depicting plants set within small intimate landscapes – where the ground, the insects and the background gain equal weight in the composition”.
Jose Escofet has exhibited his beautiful paintings in several solo exhibitions in London, USA, Switzerland, Italy.
