Being Russian I find it not easy to spell English words and use grammar correctly, as it’s a foreign language with completely different alphabet, grammar structure, etc. To my great surprise not only ordinary people, native English speakers, even schools and colleges can fall victim to horrendous spelling mistakes. More than that, poor spelling is also found in TV and newspaper reports and road signs. One of the most unfortunate mishaps is on a bright neon sign at Centennial Elementary School which is celebrating the winners of a spelling competition. Let’s look at spelling mishaps and inappropriate puns from across the U.S.

Embarrassing. This group of photographs shows that many schools and news organizations need to brush up on their spelling. Perhaps this school ought to have asked its Spelling Bee winners to write this sign.
