Beautiful nature of Altai by Vadim Makhorov
The Altai Mountains, first of all, is a real pearl of Siberia and one of the most beautiful parts of our country. And the name “Altai” means the “Golden Mountain”. Thanks to Russian photographer Vadim Makhorov, we can enjoy the stunning views of this beautiful area, including the night sky, resembling the painting of Van Gogh. Taken at the foothills of the Altai, the series of photographs include also the images of the heaviest and largest land mammals – Zubr.

In fact, Zubrs are European bisons, the heaviest and largest land mammals of Europe (weight up to 1 ton) and the latest European representative of wild bulls. By the way, Bison is an endangered animal. Of course, Altai is not Europe, but brought here for a purpose, they live here for a couple of decades. And from several pairs they expanded only to about 50 individuals. Meanwhile, sometimes tourists come, but take a look at them from a distance.

Chemal hydro-power – one of the most visited by tourists destinations of Chemal district of the Altai Republic. Powerhouse located a few hundred meters from where the river Chemal flows into the river Katun. Power station is small – only about 500 kW (2 generators with an output of 230 kW and 270 kW, but usually used one generator and one remained in reserve). Generated electricity enjoyed by the nearby sanatorium and a few houses in its territory.
