Beautiful Glass Beach in California
Beautiful Glass Beach in California
Usually, the throwing trash person affects the environment. Mountains of garbage pollute the air, soil and water, and also cause damage to the natural aesthetic beauty. However, rarely, but still there are some exceptions, when the garbage creates beauty. This happened to Glass Beach, Fort Bragg, California, USA. In the first half of the XX century on that territory there was a dump beach. In the 1960s the landfill was closed, and since then the trash had been left to itself. In 1967, the local authorities closed the beach several times and had worked on cleaning it. Mountains of broken glass, plastic and other debris lay on the shore under the warm rays of the sun, polished by waves, blown by sea breezes, and gradually the whole beach covered thousands of multicolored stones.
Since the 1980s, the glass beach has become a very popular tourist destination. In 2002, almost the entire territory of the former landfill has become part of the MacKerricher State Park, located at Fort Bragg. Since then, the people themselves engaged in the glass beach cleaning. They cleared the beach from the waste not recycled by nature. Also, many people come here just to look at the wonder of nature, take some pictures and relax. In memory of the amazing beach you can buy various souvenirs made by local craftsmen from pieces of smooth glass.
The pounding waves broke down the glass and pottery and tumbled those pieces into the small, smooth, colored pieces that often become beautiful jewelry. Additionally, Glass Beach can be found in two places (former dump sites) in Fort Bragg.
