Beautiful Malacca Strait Mosque

Beautiful Malacca Strait Mosque
The Supreme Ruler of Malaysia Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail opened the ceremony in November 2006. The mosque is a very special place, not only because its architectural beauty. Located on the artificial island, made by people in Malacca Town, Malaysia, the mosque is unique. The Malacca Strait Mosque stands on top of columns above the water, with a minaret, that looks like a lighthouse. When the water level is high, the temple looks like a floating structure. The island infrastructure includes thousands units of residential and mixed commercial development together with leisure-cum-tourism amenities – marine theme park, marina, hotels and waterfront activities.

The construction cost of the mosque is about MYR10 million. This beautiful modern mosque is white and heavenly to behold. More popularly referred to using its Malay name, Masjid Selat Melaka or Masjid for short, this frequently photographed mosque is facing the famous Malacca Strait. It is built on stilts over the water so that it looks as though it is floating when water levels are high. This functioning mosque that looks more like a dreamy theme park than a religious institution.
