Beer art by Karen Eland
Talented American artist Karen Eland has been experimenting in art and exploring the possibilities of coffee, tea, beverages for 30 years. She makes stunning pictures from coffee, tea, and now beer! Interest in beer art broke out with a bang, has spread far beyond the city limits in Bend, Oregon, where Karen lives and works. She is invited to festivals and beer tasting, now her paintings are in demand among beer makers and beer lovers.
For drawing, Eland uses a variety of beers from light to darkened ones. To create more saturated tones, she obtains the concentrate through the beer evaporating.
In fact, the technique of drawing with beer has its own difficulties. In particular, it does not tolerate the ingress of water, the structure of the liquid begins to disintegrate, there is unevenness and everything can go wrong. But with the right selection of shades, a picture appears with deep watercolor tones in sepia format.
Karen Eland draws various stories from beer labels and advertising of this drink, to realistic portraits of the most famous people.
Meanwhile, a distinctive sign of her paintings is the presence of a bottle or a glass of beer. Even Rodin’s thinker she depicted with a bottle of beer.
Pictures created by Karen Eland brought popularity to the artist and may well be an incentive for other artists who are not strangers to experiment and look for their own unique style.
According to the 38-year-old Orgeon based artist, painting with beer is quite simple, and very similar to coffee painting. “I pour out some beer and start dipping my brush and painting.”
