Boretsky painting on wood
Folk crafts spread in the Northern part of Russia, Boretsky painting got its name from the village of Borok, located on the shores of the Northern Dvina. In fact, Boretsky painting is a living legend, with its unique content of painting. Of the rectangular frame typical of the seventeenth-XVIII iconography, instead of the saints we see floral design, juicy color, full of dynamics. In particular, funny little birds looking at us, the shining sun pointed star, and tulip-shaped flowers. For its brightness, gilding and white background, Boretsky paintings were a great success, brought to the fairs in Moscow, St. Petersburg and around the world.
The most frequently used in Boretsky painting colors: red, green, brown, orange, yellow. Ornament consists of circles, drops, triangles. All elements are enclosed in a black outline. Symbol Boretsky painting – Tree of Life. Huge flower with a straight stem, around which are depicted flowers, birds, berries, delicate leaves. The motives of the composition could serve as a genre scenes: tea party festivities.
Now Boretsky painting is made in Boretsky rural settlement of Vinogradovsky district, Arkhangelsk region, 7 km from the City. Probably among the Ladoga and Novgorod settlers were painters and artists of miniature painting and manuscript books. Transferring their skills from generation to generation, they have maintained the best traditions of ancient Novgorod folk art for centuries.
