Canadian artist Calvin Nicholls
The author of these amazingly beautiful sculptures of animals, birds is a talented artist Calvin Nicholls. Using sheets of paper, Calvin has been creating his paper sculptures since 1986. He works in his studio, which is north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In particular, using a scalpel, he cuts out of paper the component pieces to fit the final drawing and assembles the low relief artwork under studio lighting. And when the sculpture is complete, he adjusts the lighting to bring out the subtle form and texture.
Canadian artist Calvin Nicholls creates incredibly intricate and realistic paper sculptures. According to the artist, he began experimenting with paper sculptures in the mid-80s and since then has produced more than 500 pieces. Each artwork can take him around four weeks to produce and in some cases have taken up to two years.
