Costume Designer Dmitry Andreev
The new film by Rustam Khamdamov “Sapphires. Murder” (Gems. Murder) will soon be released. The work of a costume designer Dmitry Andreev deserves special attention. Dmitry was born June 4, 1973 in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School in 2000. Future costume designer sewed even in his childhood, first it was dolls clothes, blankets, pillowcases for dolls. Since childhood, he was fond of the theater. With his father read screenplays, plays (there were always plenty of them at home) and staged home performances. For such home plays Dmitry Andreev created costumes, for them were “sacrificed” his mother’s and grandmother’s dresses.
After school, he went to school theater club. His roles were noble – princes and kings. And he was the only boy among girls actresses. And again they needed the suits. Now Dmitry Andreev created costumes both for himself and his partners. Thus started his career of a costume designer.
A few years later accidentally passing by Moscow Art Theatre School he saw the announcement welcoming to the course of Costume designers and technologists (workshop by Eleonora Maklakova). A miracle happened – he was admitted! And as always, he was the only male on the course.
The new film by Rustam Khamdamov “Sapphires. Murder” (Gems. Murder) is an independent part of the author’s trilogy “Gems”, which explores the moral and ethical issues people facing. The first part of the trilogy – the short film “Diamonds. Theft “- participated in the program “Horizons” of the Venice Film Festival in 2010. Shooting the third film – “Emeralds. Betrayal”- are planned for 2015.
Scenario of “Sapphires. Murder” (Gems. Murder) is mostly based on a story by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. The action takes place in the time of Alexander II. Court maid of honor in the bedroom with the Emperor tells a metaphysical tale, which takes place in the XIII century: in the woods killed under mysterious circumstances prince. Fairy-tale characters, witnesses of crime, pose a different version of events that shed light on what happened.
Working on the film, Dmitry Andreev closely studied the photo album of legendary guests of 1903 Ball:
