Egg Mosaics by Oksana Mas
Ukrainian artist Oksana Mas lives and works in Odessa, Stockholm, Barcelona, Moscow. She creates incredible egg portraits with hand-painted wooden eggs in mosaic technique. And her latest artwork is Easter egg mosaics for the Venice Biennale. She finds inspiration in traditional Ukrainian painted wooden eggs – krashenki. Oksana doesn’t paint these eggs herself, they are ready-painted by different people to celebrate Easter. So if you come close to the installation you may admire separate pieces of her creation, and the same pleasure you’ll have looking at the pictures at a distance.
“I feel deep inside that a new era in art will soon appear, and that we’ll get away from superficial art that leaves brutal impressions”, Oksana Mas explains. “Hopefully, this current financial crisis will help people understand that spiritual values are more important than material.”
