Talented American artist Beth White has become famous for her beautiful silhouette paper cuts. Her artwork is truly inspiring and completely amazing, created with great patience and accuracy. According to Beth White, she began cutting silhouettes in 1975 when her children were babies. In partricular, she made her first cuttings in their infancy,inspired by the early french shadow art of silhouette. Meanwhile, as her children grew, her silhouettes became more intricate with overlapping of patterns and forms. Her subject matter diversified from myth illustration and fantasy to intricate family portraits.
Working in many directions, she has designed freelance advertisements, product promotions, logos, album and book covers for local regional and national art directors. Among them – IBM, CBS, RCA Polygram, Renaissance Greeting Cards, American Heritage Magazine, The United States Post Office, and numerous organizations and agencies throughout the United States. Besides, she has promoted and marketed her own greeting card company that sold a personal line of greeting cards to museums and stores nationwide.
Honored artist, she received a Diamond Award for an embossed Swan Ball Invitation and a National Design Award Nomination for Kathy Mattea’s “Wind in the Willows” album design. In addition, a National Design Award Nomination for a Johnny Cash Christmas album. Her silhouettes are in private collections worldwide.
