All 87 participants of the beauty contest “Miss Universe 2013”, which for the first time in the 60 years of its existence, will be held in Russia, have met in Moscow. The contest “Miss Universe 2013” involved most beautiful girls from 27 European countries. However, not all of them are Europeans in the fullest sense of the word: Norway is ethnic Indian, Denmark – Pakistani and France – Tahitian.
The first Miss Universe beauty pageant was held in Long Beach, California and its queen became Armi Kuusela from Finland. The competition was first shown on US national television in 1955. In 1960, the show has left sunny California and moved to the hot Florida. Until 1971 beauties competition in bathing suits were only in the US, but since 1972 the competition is held each year in a new country.
In 1996 the right to host the contest belonged to American millionaire Donald Trump. In September 2015, he promised to sell the competition. The geography of the participating countries continues to expand. In recent years, it was joined by China (2002), Albania (2002), Vietnam (2004), Georgia (2004), Ethiopia (2004), Latvia (2005), Kazakhstan (2006) and Tanzania (2007).
Russia, as a separate country participates in the competition since 1994. In 2002, the winner of the contest was Miss Russia Oxana Fedorova. However, she lost the title after she was unable to fulfill all the duties associated with it. In 2005, Miss Universe became Natalie Glebova, Miss Canada born in Tuapse (the USSR).
