Murals in and around Austin Texas

Murals in and around Austin, Texas
Called “Rhapsody”, this amazing mural, creation of John Yancey decorates the Dr. Charles E. Urdy Plaza on E. 11th and Waller Streets. Noteworthy, seventy years ago, East 11th Street was Austin’s mecca for jazz. Amateur groups played at local parks on weekend afternoons, and even legends, like Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Ornette Coleman. They played at east-side venues, like Charlie’s Playhouse and the Cotton Club. Meanwhile, he worked on the installation with master artisan Luis G. Alicea and artist Steven B. Jones. Also, other works of the artist and in particular, urban mosaic works, are also very positive and attractive.
