Nikas Safronov – an artist who manages the unthinkable: to show life as it is and at the same time such as we would all like to see it. How does he do it? Perhaps this is the biggest mystery of Nikas’ creativity.
For the history of Russian art from the late 20th- early 21st century Nikas Safronov did more than anybody else. Today his paintings – the icon of contemporary Russian culture, and bright images that even people far from painting understand. Real art should be like that. No need to be an expert to understand painting professionally. In other words, art is not created for experts.
“What is essential is invisible to the eye” – said the character of Antoine de Saint- Exupery. Nikas Safronov as if enters the dispute with Little Prince and as a decisive argument gives us the opportunity to see the “most important thing”. In essence, Safronov is the same fabulous romantic. But, unlike his antagonist, he is a romantic master, romantic worker, romantic perfectionist. Skill and labor are capable of miracles. The most important invisible to the eye – unless these are eyes of Nikas Safronov.
How not to be tempting to plunge into the world of illusions and visions embodied in the paintings of Nikas Safronov? It is a constant dialogue with eternity and history, which runs through the line of all the works of the Master.
