A rosebush and an apple tree were having a debate.
“Who can compare with me?” the rosebush asked. “My flowers are beautiful and sweet to smell. True, you are larger, but what pleasure do you give to mankind?”
“Even though you are more beautiful than I,” replied the apple, “you are not as good as I am.” “What do you mean?” replied the rosebush. “How are you better than I?”
“You do not give your flowers to man unless you first wound him with your thorns. But I give my fruit to all, even those who throw stones at me.”
