Born in Chicago, Tom Samui grew up in Switzerland. He is a kinetic sculptor specializing in mobiles, he made these random sculptures out of recycled car and motorcycle parts. According to Tom Samui, he has been creating these sculptures for ten years. From time to time he goes to a junk yard and carts away a truckloads of old car and motorcycle parts. First, he cleans the pieces and sorts them by type; nothing is thrown away. Next, when all pieces – welded together, he polishes and varnishes with special anti-rust lacquer. It takes him about 400 hours to complete a large sculpture. Tom Samui’s work has been featured at New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park and in shops and galleries. Also, in businesses and private residences in New York City, Washington DC, and many other places mostly within the US, but also internationally. Tom Samui with his wife and their two boys lives in Richmond, Virginia.
