The Tree of Life – one of the worlds loneliest trees
Known as Shajarat-al-Hayat, this Tree of Life is growing in Southern Governorate of Bahrain. It is more than 400 years old. Standing on the hill Mountain of Smoke (Jebel Dukhan) its height is about 10 meters. Traditionally, the locals and thousands of tourists come to the sandy hill to see the only ancient tree growing in this area. Unfortunately, the bad side of some visits is that vandals damaged it by graffiti carvings.
According to belief, people used The Tree of Life area for cults practicing ancient rites.
Also, there is a mentioning of the tree in the 1991 American romantic comedy film ‘L.A. Story’ (written and starring by Steve Martin, directed by Mick Jackson). Considered one of the world’s loneliest trees, it stands in the dessert attracting visitors and pilgrims.
