World-famous steps in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has become a tribute to the Brazilian people, according to Chilean-born artist Jorge Selaron. Born in Chile in 1947, Jorge Selaron, traveling painter and sculptor in over 50 countries around the world had settled in Rio de Janeiro in 1983. Meanwhile, in 1990, Selaron began renovating steps of his house, covered the steps in fragments of blue, green and yellow tiles, which are in fact the colors of the Brazilian flag. Noteworthy, it has become his 20 years passion. And for such passion, he sold many paintings and accepted donations from locals and travelers to continue his long and exhaustive work. However, he continued on and covered St Teresa staircase in tiles, ceramics and mirrors. As a result, this massive living artwork, known as Selaron’s staircase, is 125 meters high and includes colorful tiles from all over the world.
